Historically, mining operations focused heavily on occupational safety within the lease boundary, often overlooking the peripheral, long-term Social Determinants of Health (SDH) affecting host communities. To prevent systemic community-company conflict and mitigate cumulative environmental health risks, contemporary asset development requires a rigorous, predictive, and multi-disciplinary framework that aligns directly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3

This Community Health & Mining Impacts Training Course provides an advanced, scientifically grounded curriculum designed to institutionalize predictive health planning across the entire mine lifecycle, from initial exploration to post-closure reclamation. Participants will master the tracking of both leading and lagging indicators, deploy human rights-based approaches, and implement risk-based medical surveillance models tailored for vulnerable, exposed populations. 1. Master the structural procedures required to systematically embed Health Impact Assessments (HIA) directly into standard Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) across global jurisdictions.
2. Align community health strategies with modern Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria to drive sustainable capital investment.
3. Deploy advanced data collection methods to establish robust, localized health baselines and accurately track community epidemiological changes.
4. Formulate and monitor rigorous leading and lagging indicators to proactively manage and eliminate health hazards before they affect surrounding communities.
5. Identify and control exposure pathways for mining-induced particulate matter, silica dust, and heavy metals in local water supplies.
6. Build trust-based frameworks that reduce community-company conflict and secure a long-term Social Licence to Operate.
7. Design interventions targeted at the structural Social Determinants of Health, including infrastructure strain, food security, and influx-related economic disparities.
