Introduction

Qualitative Research in Extractive Industries Training Course is designed to equip professionals with advanced skills in social research, ESG analysis, stakeholder engagement, and governance frameworks within mining, oil, and gas sectors. As global industries shift toward sustainable development, energy transition, and responsible resource extraction, qualitative research has become essential for understanding community dynamics, regulatory environments, and socio-economic impacts. This course provides practical and theoretical grounding in interpreting human behavior, perceptions, and lived experiences that shape extractive industry operations.

With increasing global emphasis on social license to operate (SLO), climate resilience, Indigenous rights, and ESG compliance, organizations require robust qualitative insights to inform decision-making and policy development. Participants will learn how to conduct field-based research, analyze narrative data, and generate actionable intelligence for corporate strategy, government regulation, and community engagement. The training integrates real-world case studies from mining regions, oil fields, and resource corridors across Africa and beyond, ensuring participants gain hands-on expertise aligned with modern industry challenges.
