Introduction

The growing impact of natural disasters and climate change has made Early Warning Systems (EWS) a vital component of disaster risk management globally. These systems are designed to detect hazards in advance and provide critical information, allowing communities and governments to take proactive measures. Early Warning Systems serve as a lifeline for communities, ensuring safety, saving lives, and reducing economic losses. With climate change leading to more frequent and severe weather events, it is essential to understand the importance of early warning in building resilience to such risks.

This course will explore the technical, strategic, and collaborative aspects of EWS, equipping participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical tools that are essential for creating efficient and actionable systems. Participants will learn the core components of EWS, including risk assessment, monitoring, and forecasting, along with best practices for their effective implementation.
