Introduction

Water security has become one of the most critical global priorities in achieving sustainable development, climate resilience, public health, and economic growth. Increasing water scarcity, climate change, rapid urbanization, population growth, pollution, and competing water demands have intensified the need for integrated and resilient water security planning. Governments, utilities, development agencies, industries, and communities require innovative strategies that strengthen water governance, enhance risk management, improve water resource efficiency, and ensure equitable access to safe and sustainable water supplies. Water Security Planning Training Course equips participants with practical knowledge, internationally recognized frameworks, and modern planning tools to develop effective water security strategies aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), climate adaptation, and disaster risk reduction.

The course combines strategic planning methodologies, climate-smart water management, GIS and digital technologies, water risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, policy development, and financing mechanisms to build resilient water systems. Participants will explore emerging concepts such as Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), digital water transformation, artificial intelligence for water management, water-energy-food nexus, resilience planning, smart water governance, and sustainable infrastructure development through practical exercises and real-world case studies. Upon completion, participants will be capable of designing comprehensive Water Security Plans that improve water availability, quality, resilience, and sustainability across urban, rural, industrial, and transboundary water systems.
