Introduction

Economic sanctions and coercive financial measures have become central instruments of geopolitical strategy, influencing global trade, cross-border investments, diplomatic relations, and the structure of international markets. As nations deploy sanctions to pressure adversaries, enforce human rights norms, or counter security threats, the economic implications for governments, corporations, financial institutions, and entire regional economies have grown increasingly complex. The Economics of Sanctions and Economic Coercion Training Course explores the economic mechanisms, strategic motivations, and policy impacts of sanctions and coercive tools, equipping participants with the analytical frameworks needed to interpret economic pressure in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

Learners will examine how sanctions affect supply chains, currency flows, financial compliance, global energy markets, multinational corporations, and vulnerable economies. The course integrates real-world case studies, global regulatory frameworks, and quantitative approaches to evaluating economic disruption and resilience. Participants will gain the insight to assess economic risks, predict counter-measures, understand geopolitical incentives, and evaluate the broader macroeconomic impact of sanctions across international systems.
